When a foreigner enters Ecuador, they automatically receive 90 days on a tourist visa, which can be used within a year counted from the date of entry. PENSIONER
This visa is applicable to those who receive a government pension, as long as it is for the applicant's lifetime.
For the year 2024, the minimum income a person must have is $1,380.00 USD.
Dependents such as spouses and children can obtain a visa under the sponsorship of the person holding a Pensioner visa.
The principal applicant must have an additional income of $250.00 USD per dependent.

DIGITAL NOMAD
This visa is for those who want to live in Ecuador and work remotely from anywhere in the world. If their income is greater than $1,380.00 USD per month for the last 3 months, and if they have more than $23,120,00 USD in their bank account, they qualify for the Digital Nomad visa.
The main requirement for this visa is to demonstrate through a contract that you work remotely. Adult dependent children can obtain a visa under the sponsorship of the holder of a Digital Nomad visa.
The main applicant must have an additional income of $250.00 USD per dependent.

DEPENDANT
For those who do not qualify to apply for any of the mentioned visa options, there is the possibility for spouses, partners in a de facto union, and children [of legal age or minors] to apply as dependents of a principal applicant under any of the above visas. You must provide documents that establish the filiation or marital or common law, as applicable, between the beneficiary of the protection and the holder of the temporary residence visa.
Additionally, the principal applicant must demonstrate the required income for their visa type, plus an additional $250.00 USD PER EACH DEPENDENT (adult children or spouse) for the month prior to the dependent's visa application. The downside of this visa is that the principal applicant must first obtain their visa before the dependent can apply for a visa.

RENTIER
For those who receive a minimum monthly income of $1,380.00 USD, this income can be from rental income of a property.
Adult dependent children can obtain a visa under the sponsorship of the Rentier visa holder. The main applicant must have an additional income of $250.00 USD per dependent.

INVESTOR
The minimum required investment for this visa is $46,000, which can be in real estate, a certificate of deposit from an Ecuadorian bank, or shares of an Ecuadorian company.
Ecuador offers very attractive interest rates, and some financial institutions provide up to 11% annual interest. In addition to the investment, the applicant must demonstrate income of $460,00 USD over the last 6 months.
If there are dependents such as adult children or a spouse, an additional $250,00 USD per dependent must be demonstrated.

PROFESSIONAL
This visa is for those who have a university diploma. Prior to the application, you must be registered with the Ecuadorian government, and the diploma registration process takes approximately 2.5 months.
The requirements for diploma registration are as follows:
1. University degree certificate
2. Plan of study and/or academic record that verifies the duration of the studies
3. Letter indicating the study mode
4. Certificate of knowledge in the field of the pursued career or academic program, in accordance with CINE-UNESCO
In addition to the diploma registration, the applicant must demonstrate an income of $460.00 USD for the past 6 months. If there are dependents such as adult children or a spouse, an additional $250.00 USD per dependent must be demonstrated.
PERMANENT RESIDENCY VISA
21
MONTHS
This visa can be obtained after 21 months of having a temporary residence visa, provided that one has not been absent for more than 90 days during the duration of their temporary visa.

The law states that passports must have a validity of at least 6 months at the time of applying for the visa, but we recommend that it has a validity of at least 24 months to avoid the need for transferring the electronic visa from one passport to another, as this incurs a fee.

BACKGROUND
CHECK
Background checks must be apostilled and are only valid for 6 months from the date of issuance until the last entry to Ecuador before applying for the temporary residence visa.
APOSTILLE
In order to have full validity in Ecuador, all documents originating from abroad must be properly apostilled or legalized, as applicable. Additionally, any document that is not in the Spanish language must be translated and notarized.
